This week’s Breath of the Week is led by @danielladevarney and titled Feel the Hummm — a sound-centered breath practice to stimulate your vagus nerve, activate your diaphragm, and leave you buzzing from the inside out.
Inspired by a study showing that 15 minutes of humming can increase heart rate variability (HRV) more than exercise or sleep, this session invites you into a playful, embodied exploration of sound and sensation.
Practice Outline:
- Gentle breath-to-movement warmup
- Short hums (inhale 2 / hum 2) to drop in
- Pulse humming (inhale 4 / 3 pulses out) for diaphragm activation
- Laddered breath:
- inhale 4 / exhale 4 (x5)
- inhale 4 / exhale 6 (x2)
- inhale 4 / exhale 8 (x2)
- inhale 4 / exhale 10 (x3)
- then back down the ladder
- Resonant buzzing hums with ears plugged
- Optional touch to heart, throat, ribs to deepen awareness
You’re encouraged to play, feel, and experiment — adjusting your tone, your volume, and where you sense vibration in your body.
“Let it integrate — from the deepest cellular and spiritual level.”
